Timesharing

Timesharing is the terminology utilized in Florida to address the time each parent is entitled to spend with their child.  Florida law requires the court to assume that equal timesharing is in the best interest of the minor child and to enter a timesharing arrangement giving each parent equal time unless it can be shown that equal time is not in the best interest of the child.

When developing a timesharing schedule each parent should consider their current circumstances and then try and imagine how things will change as the child ages.  What is good for a five year old is not the same as what is good for a sixteen year old.  The parent plan should be as detailed as possible to prevent miscommunication and avoidable problems.

Besides the type of shared time sharing schedule you may want, there are a host of other things to consider for example:  Where will exchanges take place?  If at school what if there is no school? If a parent is going to be away from the child, do you want the option to have the child with you?  What holidays are important to each parent and if both want the same holidays how do we share them? Can each parent freely travel in state, out of state and/or out of the country with the child?
